Z104 Stuff the Bus 2013

Z104 Stuff the Bus 2013

Published on Dec 3, 2013
HAMPTON-The holiday season is a time for giving and reaching out to help those less fortunate.

You can get a child a toy by taking part in the Stuff the Bus campaign. For the eighth year, radio station Z-104 and Southern Auto Group is joining with the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve: Toys for Tots Program.

The toy drive kicked off Saturday and runs through December 6.

On Monday, December 2, radio personality Shaggy started living on the bus to collect toys in person at sites across Hampton Roads. He's a Peninsula Town Center Monday - at the corner of Von Schilling and Coliseum Drive. The bus stops in Chesapeake, Newport News, Va. Beach and ends the drive at Janaf Shopping Center in Norfolk.

For more information on the toy drive and exact locations, click here: http://wnvz.radiotown.com/stb2013/

Bring a toy to the bus, or drop a toy off at a Smokey Bones restaurant in Virginia Beach, Newport News, or Chesapeake and receive a $5 Smokey Bones coupon.

Last year, the Hampton Roads community collected more than 60,000 toys.

Blankets for the Homeless

 Blankets for the Homeless

VIRGINIA BEACH-Volunteers are preparing another load of warm blankets and food for the homeless in Va. Beach.

The project, Blankets for the Homeless Hampton Roads, is the brainchild of 19-year-old Mariah Smith. She started the program two years ago to meet the needs of people on the streets who can't get into a shelter.

"I was born and abandoned on Christmas Eve 19 years ago and my foster mother adopted me. I feel so fortunate and blessed to have that love and security when my future was so uncertain, so I just want to do everything I possibly can to give back to the community," she said while pausing from folding blankets at Free Will Baptist Church on Monday.

Mariah's mother is proud of what her daughter has accomplished. "She speaks at school, businesses, organizations, churches encouraging thousands of people to donate. So we've been able to distribute more than 40,000 blankets, lunches, jeans, hats, coats, gloves and more," she said.

On Thanksgiving, the group will help provide food for 30 homeless teens in Virginia beach.
